The Changing Face of Weatherly

The Weatherly Rotary Foundation in conjunction with the Weatherly Area Library, The Weatherly Rotary Club and community members has raised the monies necessary to "RAISE THE ROOF" on the old Dispatch Building located on the Weatherly Trainworks Property.  The contract to perform the work was let to Valley Construction and work began January 16th, 2007.

There will be a media event on January the 18th, with representatives from the First Federal Trust and various news organizations coming together to mark the occasion of a $10,000 dollar grant from the First Federal Trust, witch will be used in the refurbishing of the Dispatch Building.  Come on down and support your towns efforts to reclaim part of its own!

Thank you, to all the citizens who have supported us throughout the effort to purchase the plant, you have given our town a special gift.  We would also like to remind everyone that this is just the beginning, and that we will be asking for your support as we go through this project together!

The "Wreckers" Robotic Team

If you haven't taken a look in Downtown Weatherly for a while there are some wonderful changes taking place.  The Downtown Park is complete and can be seen decked out in Christmas Lights that give the entire park a stunning effect at night.  Creative Gifts & Baskets has opened and is looking forward to serving the people of Weatherly and the Wreckers Robotics Team is gearing up for its competition in late March at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.  Also the Weatherly Institute for Robotics and Engineering located at 103 Carbon Street is thrilled to announce that the official FIRST Vex Pennsylvania Robotics Championship will be held on March 10th, 2007 at the Weatherly Area Middle School complex.  This event will bring teams from all over the eastern seaboard and Canada, to compete in a technologically challenging robotics event right here in Weatherly!

Revitalization of Weatherly Steel Plant

Tony Cusatis VP Relationship Manager of KNBT Bank presented a Ten Thousand dollar check to Stephen Kew-Goodale VP of the Weatherly Rotary Foundation, January 18th, 2007 to be used in the payment of refurbishing the Dispatch Building on the Weatherly Trainworks property.  The monies came from a grant issued by the First Federal Foundation.

The Phase 1 Environmental Study was completed. The Phase II & Phase 111 Study and reclamation will begin as soon as we receive the 175K Grant from the state for that purpose.  In the meantime we have begun to "button up" the property and the buildings, securing them against further destruction from the elements.  The property is now posted, so please do not trespass on the property, this is for your own safety as well as the protection of the property.

If you wish to become a part of this project or if you want to donate monies toward the project, please contact Stephen Kew-Goodale at 570-427-2362 or Gary Makuch at 570-427=8975,  for the details.  We need to obtain commitments from private citizens for $4,000 to help cover the cost of insurance on the property.  Come and help us bring Weatherly back!!
